Laser melting is a manufacturing process used to produce metal components and sub-assemblies layer by layer. As the parts are produced without the need for tooling, this process offers enormous scope in terms of component design. Thus, for example, you can produce light constructional components with grid or bionic structures that cannot be produced using conventional processes because of restrictions. As the initial powdered material (usually metal) is melted completely using a laser beam, the minimum density of the components is 99%.

This process is used in the aerospace, mechanical engineering, medical technology and automotive industries, among others.
